The Immigration Advocates Network, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, American Immigration Council, and Pro Bono Net are all co-creators of the new mobile app Pocket DACA which aims to assist with DACA cases. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is a process by which

certain people who came to the United States as children and meet several key guidelines may request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal, and would then be eligible for work authorization. Deferred action is a discretionary determination to defer removal action of an individual as an act of prosecutorial discretion. Deferred action does not provide an individual with lawful status.

Creating an app to reach the population most effected by this process is a brilliant move considering that majority of ‘children’, but more importantly, majority of immigrants use smartphones on a daily basis. This app offers an interactive way for a user to understand what DACA is and whether she may be eligible.

Pocket DACA has 6 basic screens: DACA Screening, Legal Help, DACA News, DACA Poll, resources, and FAQ.

The DACA Screening feature is an intuitive way for a person to painlessly find out whether or not he qualifies for DACA by answering few simple questions. Legal Help allows users to find local legal service providers using the phone’s geolocation or a zip code. DACA news delivers up-to-date news related to DACA process, and other immigration related information. DACA Poll questions are designed by the Own the DREAM Campaign and the answers provided assist the creators to further the campaign. Among resources, user can find out general information about the Deferred Action, how to get involved, how to get help, how to avoid scams, gather information about one’s background, and financial aid options.
