On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, Pace Law Library became the Eva and Colin Hooker-Haring Student Center at Massasoit Community College for the filming of a scene for episode nine of the Showtime series City on a Hill. Actors Jill Hennessey (Law & Order and Crossing Jordan) and Cody Kostro sat at a table in the Elizabeth Barcia Reading Room (usually known as the Stephen J. Friedman Reading Room) for their scene. The Aeron chairs at the study tables were replaced with rather uncomfortable looking wooden chairs, and what seemed like hundreds of technicians, extras, sound engineers, costume and makeup artists and set decorators descended on the Library. It was fascinating to watch, and all involved were gracious and patiently answered questions from the Library staff about the filming. (They do stand and sit around a lot waiting to set up each scene.) The crew returned the Library to its normal appearance by Thursday morning–you never would have known they were here.
City on a Hill stars Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge, and debuts on June 16 on Showtime. The show is about Boston in the early 1990s when it
. . . was rife with violent criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism was the norm – and then it all changed in what was called the “Boston Miracle.” In this fictional account, assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward comes from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt yet venerated FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr. Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers in a case that grows to involve, and ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.
The staff took many pictures, some of which are included below.
